Winding Layout

I have a winding layout here, that is 8 magnetic poles, and 8 coils.
Although, its a three layer winding, so technically its a 24 coil layout.
But, that is not an issue here, what is the issue, is I noticed in this layout
here

That the first coil out wire is connected to the out wire of the second coils, and the second coil in wire is connected to the in of the third coil.
This is the same as doing the 8 pole 8 coil generator where every second coil is reverse wound, or reverse connected?

And the only way this will work any other way is if I do 4 poles for every 3 coils?
Doing a pole/coil even count means every second coil is reversed to make it work?

The magnets alternate N-S-N-S...  So the orientation of the coil alternates, too.
As a N pole magnet passes coil 1, simultaneously a S pole magnet passes coil 4, and so on for 7,10... to 34.
Am I wrong, or is a 36-coil layout like that meant for 48 magnets?
