Database for working turbines
« on: October 06, 2010, 10:22:15 AM »
Hi, we have set up a database for working wind turbines, the idea being that we can all learn from each others experience. It would be really cool to see where all the turbine users are so let's hope that people will fill in their details. We hope that it will be useful. http://www.buildyourownwindturbine.com/index.php/turbine-database

Hi,
I signed up and filled in my details, slight snag though as the questionnaire doesn't take account of multiple turbines.

How many windmills do I have to build to become a windmillologist?

I've collected information like this myself.  It became pretty detailed, and when put into a spreadsheet I attempted to make performance comparisons.  The ultimate goal was to find relationships that would point to furling problems.  In the end I didn't get to that stage - mostly because I didn't dedicate enough time to the project before other things to do became more urgent.  But the data is still there...  if I'm ever seized by the whim again.

Your database can be as detailed as you want:  details of site, date installed, date removed, tower height, origin of kit, generator type, blades type, and so on, but asking for the members latitude and longitude isn't really useful is it?

I will sign up and put in the figures for my current turbine.  Are you doing an update to the page because the form seems to change every time I refresh it!

The idea of the lat long is some might like to see where people are you don't have to fill it in or you can move the marker to a location near you.
This also goes for any other fields as well the only required ones are Country, Grid Type, Turbine Diameter, System Voltage.

Not sure whats going on with the forum I will have a look

...still unable to fill it in.  No "submit" button appears!  Hey this could easily be a problem with my browser.  Not the first time, either, that a form has been scrambled.   :P  I'll fire up the old fire-fox on my home computer later and see if it has the same trouble.

SparWeb, if you are using Exploder version 8, try it in compatability mode (look under tools).

If I select 12v for system voltage then I can not submit.  Selecting any of the other options works fine.  I selected 24v, submitted, then tried to edit but still get the same error message if I try to submit with system voltage set to 12v.

Thanks for that it should work now

All good.
It will be fun to see how it evolves.
