New Respect
« on: February 28, 2006, 02:58:31 AM »
Dennis Weaver died. Although I quit watching TV in 1972 I knew him as 'Chester' in "Gunsmoke".  Most actors, IMO, are more manure than substance.  Maybe second only to career politicians in this regard. Again, this is my rant and my opinion.  From this link:

 http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=1668633&page=2

 I found an amazing passage:

Off-screen, Weaver served as president of the Screen Actors Guild and was a vegetarian and activist for environmental and charitable causes.

He served as president of Love Is Feeding Everyone, which fed 150,000 needy people a week in Los Angeles County. He founded the Institute of Ecolonomics, which sought solutions to economic and environmental problems. He spoke at the United Nations and Congress, as well as to college students and school children about fighting pollution.

His "Earthship" home was the most visible of Weaver's crusades. He and his wife, Gerry, built the solar-powered Colorado dwelling out of recycled tires and cans. The thick walls helped keep the inside temperature even year-round.

 --------

I think I'll have a bit more respect for the deputy. BTW, his home was in Ridgeway, Colorado.  That is in the Southwest section.

"Dennis Weaver died"

It is very sad to hear that. Yes he was a good actor in several shows and a good man also. I don't think the shows he was in needed nudity or foul langauge to be good or funny.

I get some of the old shows and actors mixed up sometimes, but wasn't he the Ranger in "Gentle Ben" also. The show with the Ranger and young son, Big pet Bear.

Did he also have a police show, maybe Mc Cloud I think. Like a Texas ranger working in New York.

I also have not watched TV much since the late 70's, but I loved some of those old shows and actors. Dennis Weaver was a good one!

Too bad TV has turned to so much trash now adays and forgotton the good old stuff that got it started to begin with. The older stars were far better than most we have today, but we so seldom see any of the better older shows or anything as good today.

I buy DVD's to watch, I have more old stuff than new and I search the $5.50 or less bins all the time. I just bought George Burns/Gracie Allen DVD and a Groucho Marx DVD for $1 each. Far better than anything I have seen recently on TV when other places. I liked the George and Gracey shows I watched tonight far better than some movies I paid $20 for. I don't buy the cheap stuff because I am cheap, I buy it because it simply is far better stuff!

Perhaps some Dennis Weaver shows will show up also sometime, I liked those too.

If you ever see it, pick up "The Duel" Starring Mr. Weaver. Amazing drama.

Yes, about a Truck driver trying to kill a car driver (Dennis Weaver) over a long trip and you never actaully see the truck drivers face as I recall.

A good movie I totaly forgot about, thanks for reminding me of it.

How come I only remember Festus?

Gunsmoke wouldn't fly today due to too much violence towards criminals.

Only good people can get killed on TV now.

And then there's all that hangin out at the bar.......
