LED lighting strip
« on: February 22, 2012, 03:31:18 PM »
Hi

Last year I built a play house for the grand kids. It had two rooms one up one down. Then as the days shortened my thoughts turned to lighting, though I had a mains supply I did not want 6year olds having access to switches with 240 V at the back of them.  A 20Ah sealed battery was bought and an old solar controller and a couple of spare 10W PV panels were put on the roof. The  place was then wired with a couple of ex caravan 13W fluorescent were installed, then a local shop Lidl had some little LED light fittings in they were 12 V with a transformer.

I was very impressed with the colour temp and the amount of light they gave.  Looking for more of them I turned to EBay and found 12 V SMD LEDs on a roll you can cut them to length in increments of three. An 18in length was cut and stuck on the ceiling replacing the old fluorescent.  The light output was more than adequate and I have the rest of the strip for other projects the full strip was 5 mtrs and it was easy to cut the plastic back and solder two new tails on the little pads.

5 mtrs of 12 V LED lighting for 11GBP I thought was a good deal.  I am now looking to replace the incandescent lamp in the bathroom of my motor home. I now have product I am itching to find more uses for.  I will have to see how waterproof they are for fitting outside.

Brian.

Yep, the LED strips are addictive.. especially the 5050 SMD strips

I have made use of them ... documented in the following posts.

Not included is my new ceiling fixture for the shed mounted on a flat aluminum using 96 of them.

I've bought several strips and folks seem to need them more than I do. Each time someone see them, they find a use and will purchase them from me.

I now have a green strip I plan on using as a shooting light for feral hogs. As of yet, the hogs have not requested a purchase.
