Wind farm plan draws positive public response

There has been a positive response from the NSW high country community to a revised proposal to build a wind farm on the Snowy Plains, near Lake Eucumbene in the Snowy Mountains.

Tuarus Energy chief executive officer Andrew Durran says the company's original proposal has been changed to reflect input from the local community.

He says people at a second meeting in Berridale earlier this year responded favourably to a series of photo mock-ups of the wind farm.

"We were able to provide a lot more information at the second meeting which gave people more confidence," he said.

"Certainly when you know what something is it's a lot easier to think about it and work out whether you like it or not.

"But I shouldn't over-emphasise the fact that there's a widespread interest in having the wind farm, there were some people who were still concerned about the wind farm even though they then knew what it was and we'd expect that."

Mr Durran says it could be a further three months before the company learns whether the project will go ahead.

He says Snowy River Shire Council is considering the development application.

yes a good result coming i reackon. Here in South Australia the state govt has recently opened a wind farm and hopes for more but there is a bit of a moratorium for the foreseable future.

Hi,

Albany in WA has a farm with a few German 1.7MW turbines and Walpole (WA) should be next BUT two Greens are fighting over the issue. The issue is the scenery, which IMHO is definitely not being damaged by those nice rotating things.

Good to see that Pacific Hydro is staying in Aussie hands and not going to a Spanish company.
