Coils and Stator
« on: May 19, 2007, 05:00:44 PM »
Here are some photos of winding coils and stator construction.  The coils are #14 wire two in hand 51 turns.  I following techniques posted by Titantornado and was successful in winding a fairly tight coil.  Also, cut a profile in the mold, as well, so the wires leading out the coils will not be pinched in the casting mold.

The counter worked well.  Can easily go forward or reverse and not lose count.

The resistance between the phases wired in star measured 0.36 ohms.

Nice work

Tight coils

i like the use of different colour insulation tape per phase

Looks like its going to be a nice machine

Be proud of your job, well done coils, neat and precise all equally defined bodies.

There is an all-temperature fiberglass insulating cloth the crossing coil lead could be  held mechanically and electrically isolated from the coil stack with - often found in a siliconized tube form similar to heat-shrink tubing... please say you are adding something to that area on those beautious flux-reactors, err, coils you've made...

Thank you for your comments and inputs by all.

DanG,   It never occurred to me to add some protection where the leads cross the coil faces coming out.  Going have to rely on the magnet wire insulation, stator has been cast.  May be on the next one.  At least I know leads were not compressed tight against the face of the coils since the mold has a relief cut underneath.

Need to make a correction about the coils.  They are constructed of 2 in-hand of No. 15 wire, not 14
