"Site Jacking"
« on: November 23, 2004, 10:15:57 AM »
Tell what. I wont point out resources from now on if you dont want.

I did not post the origanal thread in which i was basically accused of "site jacking". I put a link to a protective shroud type, stackable windmill.

If this is such a big deal, why do i activly put links to RE site all day long on my own site?!

How do i make money from people simply visiting my site?

Want to see 'revenue'? Tell you what. to date. That is, in -8 months- of solid, everyday and steady work; i have made $27.85 and that is when you CLICK ON A GOOGLE AD.

That F---ING infuriurates me. This kinda attitude is exactly what keeps us -ALTERNATIVE- not mainstream.

If OTHERPOWER.COM / FIELDLINES.COM care to offer an advertising package to me; i would likely accept Hopefully it will be under my 30$ budget.

Why would i pay? Because i actually respect this site. I could "site jack" 3, 000, 000 other sites around the net if that was my intention.

+ i know FOR A FACT i am responsible for 4 new active(how active and who, i dont know) members here due to "site jacking" fieldlines.com on other sites.

Im gonna go read something usefull and maybe link someone interested to it now.

What is that you may ask?

That is the stats for the site i link to HERE the most.

Further more, my "so called site" doesnt deal with the same issues as here. So in reality, once again working together is the key.

And FINALLY, :D  I havent crossed any line or changed my intentions one iota. Ive finally gotten a handle on a 250 meg text data base that i build onto every single day.

So that only leaves me with one question? What do *you do for OTHERS?

I call bs.

Your last 20 comments or so are typically one liners, marginally on topic, do not contain any relevant information.

If your site is a 'commercial failure' in your eyes because you made too little money, then probably all you need is some more traffic, and fieldlines can provide you with that.

Since Juiced.ca does the exact same thing as Fieldlines.com does (alternative energy discussion forum) you are clearly in competition and trying to leverage your own site of the audience that fieldlines has gathered over the years.

If you really have a contribution to make to fieldlines why don't you axe your 'also ran' site, send the traffic to fieldlines and call it a day. You're not going to get off the ground in any meaningful way, it's been tried before (no names, they became good members after a while) and it did not work...

Let me follow up on that some more:

Your site has been operational since early June of this year, has 88 members, and about 1620 posting, 99.9% of which were done by you, your buddy 'windustry' and one other member named 'xc_xtc'.

Content seems to be mostly cut & paste stuff from other parties without permission, shamelessly copying entire pages related to the alternative energy field and presenting them as your own content.

It's just another form of google bombing, trying to use other peoples content in order to get traffic to your own site.

That is NOT the way to build a website guys... come on, you should know better.

All it will get you is a day in court in front of a very displeased judge that wonders why you thought copyright did not apply to you. If you're running your board 'fair' you place LINKS not copied articles.

If you think you're going to make a living of the web without doing the hard work then I think you are slightly mistaken. For what it's worth, the 90's are over.

My only comment:

http://origin.bankrate.com/brm/news/cheap/331ways/home/energy.asp

http://origin.bankrate.com/coinfo/disclaimer.asp Note the 'Your Use of the Content' section

wholesale copying of articles, even with source cited, could get you in trouble unless you make sure to get permission first and, to forestall anyone second-guessing your legitimacy, put in a line saying that you got permission.

Or go the way I did (yes, it's OK to laugh.  It is/was a half-hearted attempt to build a website... I think I kept at it for a whole week) with a synopsis and a link to the original.

Ok there jacky boy. Actually it seems that my site and yours is the issue here.

I repeat the question. What have you done for others today?

Have to you read my about or FAQ? My financial motivations/means are right there.

Copyright? Oh well. Some people are willing to take a hit for the greater good, and honestly you'll see direct links my my copy of the articles on at least 60% of the origanals, at thier own sites.

Stop your incessant whine. You can have an A.E. too!

For the record, fieldlines.com is about MAKING DIY DEVICES. Not dicussions on A.e. Theory, politics and worl trade.

What is pisses me off is how people can KNOW things, more than others and yet still think that anything will get done by bickering or anything else. Let the lawyers, editors and oil magnats to the bitching.

Its obviously up to -US- to actually get something done about the present situation.

As for legalities.... well.. in all honesty if people can make fortunes selling satelitte dishes and spamming; then i know i can make a differance using certain tactics. Im no eco-terrorist but i am a fighter.

You can talk to any one of my closest aquaintances and you will see VERY quickly that money is the last thing i give a $#|+ about. Maybe popularity contests were fun in highschool, but guess what....

My site and yours ?? well, for the record, my site has all the traffic it can handle. And if you do not know what site that is then that's your loss I guess, but trust me you look silly. We pull in about 28000 visitors per day and 12 million pageviews. No kidding.

Also, I'm off the grid and have done quite a bit of work to build my own windmill, (about 2 years of full time work in fact) all of the info was freely shared with the members here and we're working on cad drawings right now to open up the design and allow others to replicate it.

If you really were a contributor to fieldlines you'd be well aware of that.

The fact is that you now seem to want to attack the person instead of the issues, pretty much admitting what I wrote above is the truth, if not you'd give me some information to the contrary...

  • Shilling your website: bad

  • Shilling your website with stolen content: worse

  • not knowing when you'd do better to pack it in: priceless...

Where does it say that fieldlines is about making DIY devices ? I did not know you set the agenda here.

Some people are willing to take a hit for the greater good ? Give me a break, this is all about you, and your desire to be a 'webmaster' of sorts, without any clue as to what original content is all about.

Your diary is empty, so much for your contributions, have a look at mine.

Have a great day, and don't slam the door on your way out please :)

boy, you have so many accusations...

One other thing. The only thing that i am concerned about here is your blantent disrespect towards me. Everything else, doesnt even make me flinch...

that name is french. Are you in quebec? wanna get together and say whats really bothering you?

I know exactly what it is. doesnt bother me though, just learn some respect or STFU. there are trolls on every board on the globe. except for a select few.

plagerism, spam, revenues and whatever other BS excuse you want to try and dafame me with - I DONT CARE. Learn your manners quick. ;)

Im not even posting about this anymore. you want an argument come to my board. you want a fight come for a coffee. you want a legal battle... :D ;)

and I should respect you why exactly ?

respect usually has to be earned, you can't force people to respect you.

legal battle ? what about ? calling a spade a spade ? it's a free country... or at least it was at one time.

Not everybody that has a french name is in Quebec Andy, and not everybody that has an English name lives in England.

Spam ?? I never even used the word. Revenues ? $28 > 0 ... thank you for proving my point there. The fact that it doesn't work is no excuse.

Your honour, I didn't actually amake any money of the stuff I stole, so I'm not guilty of stealing it in the first place... see if it flies.

You're funny. I hope they keep you around for amusement value. You should learn how to pick your battles and who to pick them with.

I've already said what's bothering me, and I've said it clearly and backed it up with proof. YOu have called names, insulted, demanded respect and in general shot yourself in the foot. I don't know what you are trying to do here, but if you think you're going to get clean hands by slinging mud then it's not working.

sitejacking is a technique whereby a person that tries to launch a new site keeps on plugging that site on competitors sites, because they have the same targeted audience.

One old time favourite is to go after non-commercial sites because they usually lack the funds to go after the sitejackers, or don't care too much because it's not their living that is at stake.

All this under the guise of 'not competing' and 'contributing to the discussion' but all the time asking people to go 'elsewhere' to continue the discussion, because the current site is 'hardly the appropriate place to discuss this'.

That in itself is not very good, the blatant plagiarism that Juiced. et al practice on their site is a total disgrace.

check 'juiceds' posts and you'll get the idea.

We have some not so friendly terms for characters like this concerning traffic and the oldest profession, if you get my drift :)

What? you know you've just gone too far with this non-commericalism crap Jac. If the guy wants to provide an outlet for commerially produced solar cell's who (and please tell me) are you, to say anyone can't market products at a compitive price? Jacquesm, its real people who stand behind products that they sell that make a difference, As far as Im concerned you both have an equal passion for the good you are trying to promote.

    hello Jw,

I think you have missed my point...

I don't mind juiced being commercial, no problem with that at all.

This has absolutely nothing to do with Juiced's solar cell line, it has everything to do with Juiced trying to get the people that make fieldlines into what it is to jump ship and go and join juiced.ca instead.

I run some - fair sized - websites and occasionally we get this kind of behaviour, so I'm somewhat alert to it.

Juiced can sell as many solar cells as he wants to, either direct, via the classified section or on ebay, it doesn't matter to me at all, and I hope he is successful when he does so.

    You totally misunderstood me.

    That's ok though...

JW, my main concern is that juiced could get himself in trouble by reproducing content from other sites (news outlets, etc); even providing proper attribution (which he seems to mostly do) is generally not good enough unless you have explicit permission to do so.  Some (many?) big sites don't even want you linking to them without permission (that I really don't understand).

Not to put words in his mouth, but I believe jacques feels like juiced is participating in fieldlines discussions soley for the purpose of self-promotion. He has run a pretty large commercial site for some years and seems quite sensitive to what might be considered 'leaching' or 'site jacking' - using the popularity of another's site to promote one's own.

Personally, I think juiced really is 'juiced' about AE/RE and his intentions are good, but I also think he read the wrong manual for web site promotion and content development.

I think Rato has hit the nail on the head.

See, i didnt even realise how commercialised jacques is because thats not my point. I belive i visited his site and registed. Dont remember if i posted of anything, but i definitly didnt get the big corp feeling.

As for myself, yes. JUICED is right.

As for the legalities... I definitly appreciate the concerns. One thing i want to add on that note; is simply that the majority of the articles on the site are not even availible any more. So in a sense, im archiving. Well, thats exactly what im doing; but with a twist.

The main reason my site is setup the way it is simple.  when i got into this 4 years ago (AE/RE), but i mean really into it. I(ve alwas been pretty green. Done ALOT of my own initiative volunteer stuff.) I couldnt find very much information on the web. In fact. pretty much nothing. dead links, people selling OU etc etc..

I wish i found OP a looooong time ago. BEFORE i ever intended on having a site.

And if you look around here, physically; there is very little media concerning this field.

This is my life. Not the site, belive me that database is safe and sound for referance no matter what; but AE/RE. I just wish i had taken certain steps earlier.

geez guys, really hate to see this stuff go on here. not blaming anyone, i just like to see everyone get along.

now when life has you down, remember the "fifth"  it sure helps a lot!  :)

you see its like this.     time is equal to this :) :) :) :), not this :( :( :( :(

now everything i just explained is a lie, and i am telling you the truth. this is the basis of zubloid technology.

einstein had it all wrong, he figured that nose hairs could be trained into a mustache and he ended up with :) :) - :) :)=?   what is this?   probably this  +

now we all know that the 5th dimention is 1/2 of the tenth dimention, and the tenth dimention is 1/4 of the 40th. so actually the 5th is in t=reality only an 1/8 dimention trying to make a statement. glad you now understand this.

now , if i slap my face with the front of my hand and then the back of my hand, did i actually slap it at all because the middle was not used. this is what you call inner and outer technology. one cancelles the other and therefore the slap never took place because the inner dimention was not figured into the equazion.

now with the explanation of :)-:(  t=reality and the forgotten inner reality, anyone at all can fully understand the 5th dimension.

    so simple!

    have a great day  :)

Not bad!  I barely use 50Ah per day (@24V) so my batteries have finished their boost phase (30V) and are back at float by about 11am.  That's with 560W of solar going into 1100Ah of battery.

The sun rises here at 5:30am now (we've started summer daylight saving time).

    Hey Andy,

I have read your site, never posted there even once... If you think that I would you are obviously very much unaware of who I am. Funny. Maybe you should read fieldlines a bit more often than just posting there eh ? I think you managed to piss a few more people off besides me and that's now coming back to you. Your crazy rants are more than a little irritating, which is fine with me, that's your right, free speech and all that. But to suggest that I would even remotely be involved in changing the content of your website is absolutely ridiculous.

You may be attracting the 'wrong' kind of attention by your rants... ever thought about that ? Or do you think you can insult people here with prejudice without it coming back to you somehow ? Not everyone here is as thick skinned as I am, and some people may not like the way you go about your business. But I have absolutely nothing to do with it, all I did was read some stuff on your site, did some calculations and drew my conclusions. Which so far stand, since you have not brought a shred of evidence to the contrary.

You seem to have done precisely what you intended, someone decided to take the issue to 'your' site, and now you complain about it. Be careful what you wish for you just might get it.

FWIW I suggest you reseach the subject of JCP, the last person that behaved like you do now. For some reason infantile rants and namecalling are not appreciated here, and I'm beginning to see why.

You seem to enjoy the spotlight, you have TWO stories regarding the same subject on the homepage of fieldlines right now, and they don't exactly help to paint you in a positive light.

    Congratulations...
