IMHO it causes major disruptions. (Slashdot.org, for instance, is completely unusable on April first, due to the editors' choice to include primarily "joke" articles.)
I often thought, back during the Cold War, if the Russians had chosen to commit a first strike on April 1 they could have conquered, or at least wiped out, the West. B-([ Parent ]

In fact the article explicitly cited the Betz limit (giving the 59.3% approximation) and talked about the new turbine trying to come closer to it than stuff currently on the market (which it characterized as running about 30% efficient).
Also the inventor posted a comment and said they don't make any claims at all and are just trying to get it to work.
