2 different way this is the 3rd

I have an Ametek '30' on my Pedal Generator,
34 inch diameter crank flywheel .....2inch dia.
motor 1:17 ratio,with a full wave rectifier.
Charging 2 12volt batteries in series I can pedal
with ease like pedaling a bicycle on a level
stretch 60rpm crank speed 1020 rpm motor.....60
watts. This is where reality sinks in ....to
charge a 12volt battery at this ratio is difficult
because it kicks in at a lower speed....I'd guess
520 rpm and about 30 watts to a 12 volt battery.
Never tried it on a windmill yet.
A rope wrapped around the shaft the generator
hooked up to a battery thru a rectifier...a
a tachometer a couple of milk jugs on the end
of the rope, a fairly simple exercise in math
will give you all the data you need to know,
then you can give us your data....and we can
compare notes....

ametek motors are DC motor,so,whats the real use of a full wave rectifier?

i was believing that a full wave rectifier is used to make AC current to DC current which is not your case for the ametek.

One advantage of using a bridge rectifyer on a DC motor is that it doesnt matter which way round you put the input leads the + will always be + and the - will always be -

Bad points the voltage drop through the diodes will be doubled so it will have to turn faster before it starts charging.....

A single steering diode in one of the leads will still be the best way of doing things..

Hi Norm,

Been having problems posting to this diary posting for days.(I think they fixed the problem!)
I will try again and repeat what I posted on your other one.

If I am understanding you right, you could always reduce the diameter of the flywheel to get more TORQUE at the same pedal crank rpm, which should get you the 60 watts into the 12v battery since you would be reducing speed rpm (at the generator) in half. Of course, it is just trading speed for torque or torque for speed until one finds the best situation for ones system Batt voltage.

I sorta like the slow high torque 30rpm pedal crank rpm myself. (which is evidently what you have now)
I suppose you are pedaling on a Bike?? You might make a very sturdy chair type set-up and get the higher Torque leverage, and then push 100watts on the down stroke.
