Yeah my 10 footer was at 64ft and it was above everything by 20-25ft when we added another 21 ft to get it to 85ft it made a huge difference the thing is always turning.

Hi, couple of questions. What is your tower material. I've been considering 4" schd. 40 for a 60' tower and now would be the time to go higher if this stuff is stiff enough. Also what kind of wind area are you in? I'm in what I think is a marginal area. Gusty winds when fronts move thru and just breezy a lot of the time. I under stand this evaluation is made from ground level. But I wonder about the benefit of doing that here. Also how far is your tower from the batts.? Thanks.

Hi,I have to sites,the one at farm has awesome wind,cant keep you ball cap stuff,gets gusts from river and highest point around,how ever its at my farm and don't need much power there so just a micro mill ,amtek 27 foot tilt up 30 feet to batteries.1.5 inch pipe pivoting on a 2 inch stub tower with a sch 80 1.5 inch galv pipe inside in
concrete pad.

Other site is my home which is a larger micro 500 watt am building a 42 foot tilt up sch 40 2.5 inch pipe will be 48 volt 100 feet from batteries,problem is don't have much wind there 10 -15 mph 3 days a week or so,but will help out the solar panels some.
I think you cant go wrong over building,lots of power in that wind. good luck to you.

Out of curiousity, what kind of mill?

And yep, seems to be the general concensus, the higher the mill, better the wind and lower the turbulence. Just wish I could legally go higher than 30 ft here

just  a micro mill 4 footer, 450 watt .don't need much power at farm. 12 volt but keeps  a 500 a.h. string charged with 150  watt solar.took down a 1kw was too large ,dump load always on.I wish I had that wind at my home.you have to play the cards you are dealt.
