I know I probably shouldn't smile, but eventhough I understand its a tragedy, I am still relieved that even the big guys still run into kinks from time to time. Now all my near mishaps seem small cause they didn't cost anywhere close to one of these guys.

An additional downside of these is they are likely to rain down some burning stuff and start a grass fire.  That's particularly nasty in places like Altamont Pass where, unlike the green forests of the videos above, the grass is dry and fire hazard high for months at a time.


And of course it's most likely when the wind is up to provide the energy to start the fire when something fouls in the turbine.  So if the fire gets started it gets quickly blown up and around by the wind.
