Another motor conversion
« on: March 13, 2009, 11:36:43 PM »
I just finished another motor conversion.

I have done two others using the arced mags and skewed arc mags but there was always room for more magnet material.

After turning the rotor and measuring, it seemed that 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/4 inch squares would fit.

Seeing other people use the round disks and having so much wasted space between the disks, I opted for the squares.

The offset for decogging is 5/16 inch. This is the distance from one tooth of the stator to the other.

I made some 'first row' jigs to keep the mags aligned until the JB KWIK set.

The second and third rows were more challenging to keep in place so I made some 'flux concentrators'.

They are 3/16 steel plate with a notch cut to accept the mags.

This made attaching and aligning the mags much easier.

After cleaning up the mags I covered them with a layer of fiberglass and resin.

There are 15 mags per pole for a total of 60.

The results:

No cogging

Cut in at 200 RPM Jerry rigged

9.5 Amps @ 400 RPM into battery bank @13.1 V

Not bad for a 3/4 horse.

This is just too much fun!

Thats just awsome Bonz.

Was this motor 208/440 volt type? I would asume your using the low volt option if the stock wireing was used?

Great work, the conversions are still alve YEH.

Hey Jerry,

Sorry to hear you're closing the store.

Is this from the slow economy or just tired of it? Any plans for the future?

The motor is 208V with 6 factory leads out. It could be wired star or delta as stock.

I do your parallel bridge hook up. Good amps with low cut in speed.

I packed all the magnets that I could, into this one.

Hi Bonz.

We'll the owner of the building and the property has been fighting city hall for 10 years.

He has been wanting to build an industrial complex here. The city fathers finaly got there head out of there $%^&*ss and gave the goahead.

We are at the end of our lease with no renewability.

Thats ok for us. I've put in 35 years in the audio bussiness, 23 of that with our retail store.

So now its time to get down to work and build some wind generators.

Besides I'm not wanting a new long term lease and a poor ecomemy helped us make this chioce.
